What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is an injectable filler substance made synthetically in a lab. It is made up of tiny micro spheres of calcium hydroxylappetite, the same minerals that make up bones and teeth, that is then mixed with sterile glycerin and water. It is used to fill in deeper wrinkles and lines, acne scars and to enhance the lip size. It is not a protein, so no skin test is required.
Is Radiesse® safe?
Radiesse® has been used for many, many years and is FDA approved for medical procedures, such as strengthening vocal cords, in dental and orthopedic and urological procedures and as a tissue marker. It has been tested and used for over 5 years in Italy and Europe for cosmetic purposes with outstanding results! It was introduced in the USA last year at the International Plastic Surgery Conference for cosmetic uses and is currently used off-label (just like BOTOX® was for years) all across the USA by plastic surgeons and dermatologists for cosmetic uses. FDA approval is pending and is expected in the near future for cosmetic uses. Side effects have been very, very rare.
Is Radiesse® expensive?
The initial investment is more than collagen, but over time, the cost is much less because Radiesse® has been shown to last 1 to 2 years. It is sold in a 1.5cc syringe and at the time of consultation, we will let you know if 1 cc will be adequate to provide the results you are looking for.
How long does a Radiesse® appointment take?
The treatment takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
Is there a recovery with Radiesse®?
No! You achieve the results and may resume normal activities immediately. However, the bruising may be more extensive than with collagen and we ask that your "rest" the injected area after the injection. Thins means that you should not manipulate or massage the injected area for several days.
Is Radiesse® permanent?
No. Radiesse® has been shown to last in cosmetic procedures for at least 2 years up to 5 years or more.
